AltaBioscience offers a mycotoxin analysis service to detect and quantify aflatoxins, including aflatoxin M1, deoxynivalenol (DON), fumonisin, ochratoxin, T-2/HT-2 and zearalenone.
Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by certain types of mould or fungi and are capable of causing serious adverse effects, even in small quantities, when entering the food chain. In particular, aflatoxin, is considered a carcinogen and is strictly regulated by the FDA and EU regulatory bodies. Mycotoxins are most commonly found in food stuffs with a high proportion of carbohydrates or sugars. It is estimated that approximately 25% of food production contains mycotoxins and they are found in a large variety of products including, crops such as wheat, barley, corn and rye, cereals, nuts, dairy products, alcohol and animal feeds.
Certified to ISO 9001:2015, we use the recommended enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) based method of analysis, to accurately detect and quantify mycotoxins that may be present in foodstuffs.
